CTSO Information

WHAT IS CTSO?

A CTSO is a Career and Technical Student Organization. There are several CTSOs each catering to a different career cluster. The most prominent are:

  • DECA
  • Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
  • Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
  • Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
  • National FFA Organization
  • SkillsUSA
  • Technology Student Association (TSA)

 

WHY CTSO?

According to the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), “CTSOs play an important part in preparing young people to become productive citizens and to assume roles of leadership in their communities. These organizations provide a unique program of career and leadership development, motivation, and recognition for secondary and post‐secondary students.”

Regardless of which organization a teacher, school, or district decides to implement, all the CTSOs offer the same benefits to students with some listed below: 

  • Develops “people” skills
  • Improves communication and decision making skills.
  • Develops skills and responsibilities associated with being a role model and mentor.
  • Offers opportunities to earn scholarships, awards  and other forms of recognition

Program of Work

The heart of any CTSO is the program of work or what your chapter is going to do. It is the activities and projects—the plan of action—that your chapter will carry out during the school year.
